Magicians Zoanthids are a favorite among reef keepers because they’re colorful, hardy, and grow into eye-catching colonies. With the right care, they can become a bright focal point in your tank without demanding expert-level skills.

Placement, Lighting, and Flow

Magicians Zoas do best in moderate conditions, which makes them flexible for aquascaping.

• Placement: Start them on the lower to mid-level of your rockwork. This lets you adjust up or down based on their response.
• Lighting: Moderate PAR (80–150) is usually ideal. If they stretch upward and look dull, they may want a bit more light. If they shrink or bleach, reduce intensity or move them lower.
• Flow: Aim for gentle to moderate, indirect flow. The polyps should sway lightly, not fold over or close up.

Tip: When changing light or flow, adjust slowly over a week to avoid stressing the colony.

Feeding, Growth, and Health

While Magicians Zoanthids can live off light and nutrients in the water, targeted feeding can speed up growth and color.

• Feeding: Once or twice a week, spot-feed with fine coral foods (reef roids, powdered plankton, or very small meaty foods). Turn off flow briefly so food can settle on the polyps.
• Water quality: Keep nitrates around 5–15 ppm and phosphates detectable but low. Ultra-clean water can actually slow zoa growth.
• Dipping new frags: Always dip new Magicians Zoas in a coral dip to remove nudibranchs, spiders, and eggs that can wipe out colonies.
• Pest checks: If polyps stay closed for more than a day, inspect at night with a flashlight for pests or irritation from nearby corals.

With stable parameters, consistent maintenance, and a bit of targeted feeding, Magicians Zoanthids will spread into a dense, colorful mat that adds serious visual impact to your reef.
