Lighting, Flow, and Placement for Jokers Zoanthids

Jokers Zoanthids are generally hardy and adaptable, but dialing in light and flow will help them open fully and color up beautifully.

Lighting Requirements

These zoas do well in low to moderate reef lighting. Too much intensity can cause them to shrink or wash out.

  • PAR range: Aim for roughly 80–180 PAR.
  • Acclimate slowly: Start Jokers Zoanthids in lower light and move them up over 1–2 weeks.
  • Blue spectrum: Heavy blue/actinic lighting helps their green skirts and purple centers pop.

Water Flow

Moderate, indirect flow is ideal. You want enough movement to keep debris from settling, but not so much that the polyps stay closed.

  • Polyps should sway gently rather than whip back and forth.
  • Avoid pointing powerheads directly at the colony.
  • Random or pulsing flow patterns work particularly well.

Water Parameters and Feeding

Stable, reef-safe parameters are more important than chasing perfect numbers. Jokers Zoanthids tolerate a range, but consistency is key.

  • pH: 8.1–8.4
  • Alkalinity: 8–9.5 dKH
  • Nitrate: 5–15 ppm
  • Phosphate: 0.03–0.10 ppm

While Jokers Zoanthids get much of their energy from light, occasional feeding can support faster growth and richer color.

  • Target feed a fine coral food or powdered plankton 1–2 times per week.
  • Turn off pumps briefly so food can settle on the polyps.
  • Avoid overfeeding; excess nutrients can fuel algae growth.

  • Algae: Hair algae and cyanobacteria can smother polyps and block light.
