What Makes Forest Fire Montipora Digitata Special?

Forest Fire Montipora Digitata is a fast-growing SPS coral prized for its vivid contrast: bright green base with fiery red to orange polyps. It’s one of the more forgiving SPS options, making it a great “first stick” for reefers stepping up from LPS and soft corals.

Place this coral mid-to-high in the tank where it can branch out and show off its structure. Give it room to grow upward and outward—its branches can quickly shade slower corals below.

  • Lighting: Moderate–high PAR (200–300). Too little light dulls the reds; too much can bleach the tips.
  • Flow: Strong, random flow. Avoid blasting a single powerhead directly at the colony.
  • Placement: Rockwork ledges or pillars, not buried in dense coral clusters.

Care Tips for Color and Growth

Forest Fire Digitata rewards stability more than anything. Sudden swings in alkalinity or nutrients are the fastest way to lose color or tissue.

  • Parameters to aim for:
    • Alkalinity: 8–9 dKH (keep daily swings under 0.3 dKH)
    • Calcium: 420–450 ppm
    • Magnesium: 1300–1400 ppm
    • Nitrate: 5–15 ppm; Phosphate: 0.03–0.08 ppm
  • Feeding: While it relies heavily on light, it responds well to light broadcast feeding of coral foods 1–2 times weekly.
  • Fragging: Use bone cutters to clip branches and glue frags upright for best growth form.

Quick tip: If colors start to fade, test alkalinity first, then check PAR. Most issues come from either unstable alk or over-lighting, not from “bad” coral.

With stable parameters, good flow, and thoughtful placement, Forest Fire Montipora Digitata can quickly become a bright, branching centerpiece in your reef.
