The 24k Leptoseris is a stunning, golden-plated chalice-style coral that can glow like a molten sun under reef lighting. It’s a great choice for hobbyists who want big color in a relatively small footprint, but it does best when you respect its specific needs.

Lighting, Placement & Flow

Leptoseris generally prefers lower light than many SPS corals, and the 24k variety is no exception. Too much light will wash out the gold and can cause tissue recession.

• Lighting: Aim for low to moderate PAR (60–120). Start it on the sandbed and move it up slowly over 2–3 weeks if needed.
• Placement: Ideal for shaded ledges, vertical faces of rock, or lower sections of your aquascape.
• Flow: Moderate, indirect flow works best—enough to keep detritus off the surface without blasting the tissue.

Tip: If the coral starts to look pale or recedes at the edges, reduce light intensity or move it to a more shaded spot.

Feeding, Stability & Long-Term Care

While 24k Leptoseris can live on light and nutrients alone, targeted feeding and stable parameters will dramatically improve color and growth.

• Parameters: Keep alkalinity 8–9 dKH, calcium 420–450 ppm, magnesium 1300–1400 ppm, and temperature 77–79°F.
• Nutrients: Avoid “ultra-low nutrient” conditions; a bit of nitrate (5–15 ppm) and phosphate (0.03–0.08 ppm) helps maintain rich coloration.
• Feeding: 1–2 times per week, gently broadcast feed fine particulate foods (reef roids, powdered zooplankton) with pumps off for 15–20 minutes.
• Space: Give it a few centimeters of room from neighbors; while not the most aggressive coral, it can overgrow slower species.

Monitor it monthly: healthy 24k Leptoseris will show a crisp, golden sheen, clear polyp structure, and slow but steady encrusting growth. With stable conditions and careful placement, it can become one of the most eye-catching focal points in your reef.
